Par­lia­men­tary demo­cracy thri­ves on com­mit­ment and respect for decisions.

Par­lia­men­tary demo­cracy can­not be taken for gran­ted. It took demo­cra­tic move­ments cen­tu­ries to deve­lop, fight for and shape par­lia­men­tary demo­cracy. It requi­res clear rules, sta­ble insti­tu­ti­ons, the com­mit­ment of indi­vi­du­als as well the respect and app­re­cia­tion of the entire society. Majo­rity decis­i­ons must be respec­ted as much as mino­rity rights. Freely elec­ted par­lia­ments are the legi­ti­mate repre­sen­ta­tion of all citizens.
